The occasional opining of a sleep-deprived grad student, with cheese.

Yawn

I'm actually quite tired now, and don't anticipate a pick up later this evening. So this mediocre post is about all you'll be getting today.

I've got fruit flies again, which sucks. And little baby cockroaches in my bathroom. I'll be calling the main office on this problem, since babies mean an infestation yet to grow up. Maybe I can get them all killed young.

Orientation today was long. The first half dragged much longer than it should have, by any means. It was corny, crowded, and they had lousy breakfast, so I had no energy for the day. Plus, I discovered that my new shoes (depression = new shoes) have to be broken in a little more before I can walk all over campus in them. So by ten I had a dime sized blister on one heel, and a bunch of little red welts around my ankles where the shoes rub. No problem, of course, I just asked around for a Band-Aid to put on the big blister, and tried not to walk too much during orientation.

They are very nice shoes. Red. Cute. I like them. I should wear them with the risky lime hat. They would match. You may begin laughing if you'd like.

Lunch was sandwiches, and it would have been fine, if the ants hadn't found us and swarmed around our feet. I freaked out, of course, and had to have a friend brush them off while I squeezed my eyes shut as tightly as I could. I didn't remain in the area long.

After lunch, we learned worthwhile things that couldn't be summed up in a half page handout, such as how to deal with various student problems. Or problem students, as the case may be.

We (that would be me, plus the group of friends traveling with me) managed to get lost twice in the same area of the chemistry building. This would be the building with the largest lecture hall, so every grad student on campus was sent there for today. Tomorrow, we continue orientation, but only for a half day, and in our own English building. Where they provide good food.

I've already got an assignment for next week (classes *start* next Monday), and I'm only a bit miffed about it. It doesn't seem like a bad assignment, and after all, I do have time for it now. Better now than later. We start grading papers next week. Already. Yikes.

Let's see. I'm a little fuzzy now, due to a whole day of mind-numbing speakers and vaguely-important-yet-common-sensical lectures. So I can't think of anything really to write here, and I might end up doing a load of laundry just to keep awake until bed time. I can't risk not making it to orientation. I'm sure there's a penalty for that.

Oh! I know what I can do. Any of you who are interested can go check out Pandora's new blog. It's brand new, so don't go expecting lengthy archives or anything weird, but feel free to drop her a line. I'm assuming I've got permission to brag on her. She's really great. Well, here's the link:

Let me know if it isn't all blue and cool like that. Although you could just as easily paste it into the bar above...

Talk to you later.

End.
