Life of a Creative Writing Grad Student [and knitter]

The occasional opining of a sleep-deprived grad student, with cheese.

this just in

brown day fits brown mood.

i love it when dirt town lives up to its name. now if only it would rain, we'd have horizontal sheets of mud to contend with. some fun, that.

am investigating the short-short for my teaching. needed to get some fine examples for my students. have found many wonderful pieces to bestow upon my ungrateful ones.

also spent some time playing with the magnetix. such a soothing toy. is in fact the reason this is not a black mood and therefore a non-matching situation.

another lightening feature, an esp. timely one: had a pleasant encounter with a student on the way to the truck. usually, my out-of-class encounters with students are less than pleasant as the student has lots of questions/concerns that just didn't get voiced in class or brought to office hours.

of course, this is a student who has exhibited all the traits i pair with excellent students, such as engaged in class, eager to learn, interested in applying the subject matter to out-of-class situations, willing to attend office hours for help when needed/wanted, full of effort, and many others. this student once spent over three solid hours in my office clarifying a subject, working through ideas, etc. in order to more fully revise a piece.

and i didn't mind one bit.

yeah. that kind of student. the eagerness overwhelms.

traffic issues brought me back to brown. i'd been in a beige/pale tan mood after talking on the lawn.

now i'm going to rewatch that bleach episode (which, while not as kickass as i'd hoped, is still one of the better ones with only a handful of animation deviations i found upsetting) in hopes of a return to beige before doing some reading and going to bed.
