tallies and sanity
alas.
instead, i made tallies. i counted the number of times my rather too-busty classmate grabbed hold of the front of her shirt and jerked it up about 3 inches. 4.
i counted the number of times one student fell asleep outright. 3. these were extended periods punctuated by wakeing-up-in-strange-place snorts. in a way, i'm jealous that others can block this class out so fully while i am stuck firmly in the moment.
i counted the number of times this same student issued forth an undergrad sigh. 46. these tallies spanned the whole page and two lines.
even as an undergrad i never understood the undergrad sigh. this is the explosive, arm-flailing, spine-bending sigh of utter and complete boredom. it's designed so that the professor knows the student is bored. this is important, because once the professor knows how very bored the student is, it is the professor's responsibility to cease the boredom by ending class early, moving on to a new subject, recinding an assignment, canceling group work, the like.
it is perfectly reasonable to expect a professor to do this, since the student is paying for the classroom, the time spent in the classroom, and indeed the professor's complete sallary and reason for being. it is only reasonable to expect this if the professor knows how very bored the student is. thus, the whole-bodied undergrad sigh.
why 46 of these? because class didn't run the full time. i fully believe i could have broken 50 if class had only been 15 minutes longer. but not if it had been 20 minutes longer. this student would have simply fallen asleep again and not, in fact, contributed to the tally of undergrad sighs.
tomorrow, the latest episode of bleach comes out. it'll have been 3 weeks since the last one. they left it off in an incredibly cliff-hanger-y manner, right before my favorite character does some way cool shit. i hope it's an hour-long episode to make up for the wait. i hope it's better animated than the last episode where this character did cool shit. that one was subpar, and it almost ruined the cool shit. they've had time now, though. should be a highlight to the week.
at the very least, it will perhaps make up for the horror that will be work tomorrow, or serve as a reward.
