moving

no, not me. i'm not going anywhere except home for thanksgiving. it's my downstairs neighbors with the dogs they yell at all the time. they've been moving since about 7 this morning. sadly, i cannot say that they woke me up. i would like to have slept in, but alas, it didn't happen.

the point is, they're moving. they moved in a bit earlier than this last year, and are heading out. presumably, their lease is up and they chose not to renew. they had a whole ton of people helping them move in, to the point where i really couldn't tell who had moved in for the longest. for moving out, their help consists of a single elderly man. he's directing traffic and spreading blankets over furniture.

in similar news, my next door neighbors with the cat in heat (yes, the fool thing's still in heat and not spayed) have been strangely quiet for the last two weeks, and their cat as well. i thought perhaps they'd moved out since that was near to the first of a month. they apparently have not. there's a note taped on their door that looks suspiciously like it might be a "pay up now" note. it's been there since wednesday.

i'm not sure what's up with that, but it seems to me they just up and left, broke lease, and haven't been by to check their door. not cool, my neighbors. not cool. in any case, it's after the 15th, so if you still haven't paid your rent, wow.

as i said earlier, i'm not going anywhere. i'll be hear until next summer at least. longer if nothing horrid happens to make me hate this place. i would like, however, to move my apt around. it's getting on my nerves that i haven't drastically rearranged in so long. but i just don't have the time, so i'm busily fantasizing about how things would look if i did have the time, or where i'd put things, etc.

i've found really cool bookshelves now at two places, and not just ikea. unfortunately, the container store is about as far out of my reach as the ikea. i just may have to make a spring break trip over to nearest-large-city-with-a-[store] the way things are looking. there's simply nowhere around here that has the sort of thing i'm looking for.

see, i don't want big, heavy, dark, solid, belongs-in-a-cozy-den bookshelves. i want shelves that are more of the light and airy side, preferably with little-to-no assembly, able to be stored flat for moving purposes (i'm not leaving now, but these would be investment pieces to travel with me in the future), and with shelves either close enough together and numerous enough to hold lots of books or adjustable such that i can add shelves to make it that way. ikea has it all. container store has most, and in wrought iron, which is the only unifying design in my entire apt.

it's a waste of bookshelf to have the shelves far enough apart to fit books stacked two high. my books are not that large. there's too much wasted space. but to have them all be so close together would alienate my larger books. and i want to be able to leave some shelves relatively clear to hold stuff-on-display.

argh. i'm a bit on the picky side when choosing furniture, i suppose. but i want this to be furniture i'll want and keep and love for a long long time. and i'm sick, absolutely sick, of my walmart/belongs-in-a-dorm stuff.

and now i'm going to grade more papers.

love and peace
