update from dirt town

charlotte and festus are back, and avidly exploring the apt.

charlotte got a urinary tract infection [poor thing], and so i have medicine to force down her throat twice a day. i haven't tried it yet, but at 5:30, i will. depending on the level of excitement involved, i'll be blogging about it.

festus is happy to be back, and only spent about five minutes skulking under the bed. wow, has he come a long way. unfortunately for him, he will be re-entering his crate early friday morning for an extended stay at the vet. he will come back seven days later without his front claws.

why has rehkmira decided to declaw a cat? how could the world have been tipped on its end like this? after talking to a cat rescuer for a while about the various problems and the end of my rope, said cat rescuer shared her own story about a cat who literally scratched his way to the concrete. dear lord almighty. she believes festus's behavior was created by a lack of scratching posts or other acceptable scratching areas in his previous home. by now it's far too late to correct the behavior, and it was probably too late as soon as i got him.

she said she'd gotten several cats declawed herself, and had gotten nearly 20 cats declawed for other folks. nary a problem. and really, if someone with a lot of experience in the area recommends that over trying to find him a new home, then i'll go ahead and get his fingertips chopped off.

to that end, the appointment with his vet, and the boarding for three reasons: a] his pretty much forced to rest when he's caged, b] this avoids the pricey 'special' litter his healing paws will need, and c] i doubt i could live with myself if i had to see him limping around.

weighed against the cost of adoption fees, first round and new-kitty booster shots, a fix job, and the emotional strain of losing festus and getting a new cat, i think the declaw and boarding would be worth it. esp in the long run.

...

i just gave charlotte her meds. wowza. kind of makes a person wish for extra arms. still, i'm intact; she's intact. and mad at me.

so. there's yon cat update.

as for the rest... there's a very large list of things i must do before the semester starts. three pages, actually. nearly to the bottom of the third. i keep scratching things off, but the work doesn't seem to end.

more later.

love and peace
