Here We Go Again

Well, I've seen the newest (and last--everybody breathe a sigh of relief with me) of the Star Wars films. I was at the 1:15 AM showing early this morning. Yeah. And I'm not even a die hard fan. J and I just decided on a whim to do it, and so we ran over bought tickets, and convened at the English building at midnight to drive over to the theater and get in line. We got decent seats, there were no babies, tall people, or swooning fangirls in our audience... in short, all was well. Then the movie started.

I will not spoil it for those of you who are going to see it later. Let's just say that the audience started off cheering at the beginning of the movie, and that at the end, everyone walked out with the kind of silence that is not awe-struck. The actors, bless their hearts, were sabatoged by the script, and the scenery/fighting was more impressive than any other parts of the movie combined. I found myself at the end with my fingers crossed thinking "please don't show Yoda setting up house, please don't show Obi-Wan setting up house, please don't show...." I'll leave off for now, because as I mentioned earlier, I'm trying not to spoil anything. The graphics and effects were very nice, the plot was very nice, but there I run out of good stuff to say. Maybe later there will be some specifics that I liked but didn't want to write quite yet out of respect for sane people who haven't seen the movie yet. I-HOP afterwards was pleasant.

I've just now concluded my phone interview for a possible IT position at the school. It sounds like a lot of fun but hard work, and I would really like to get the job. It would last into the next two semesters, and there'd be some tinkering (approved by composition staff) with the regular teaching duties to level things out. This would give me the teaching experience I need, the grading experience I need, and also the technological experience that would do me good. Summer would be mostly training for the next two semesters. The interview sounded promising, but I'm not getting my hopes up; anything could happen.

And there you have the update.

End.
