on paint
however, the planning on our part was not up to par. several of the secretaries only partially moved out, because the theory was that they'd be able to move back in by next monday, or that at least they'd be able to snip into their offices briefly to grab files/check outlook/etc. instead, there's been a lot of inconvenience.
finally, the boss and i got to head into the off-limits room and retrieve things. this involved the painter dudes slicing little holes in plastic sheeting so we could slip through to individual offices.
lesson one: it is quite difficult to navigate one's body plus a desktop computer through a three-foot slit in plastic sheeting.
lesson two: when in doubt, label. miscommunication happens all the time, and a simple post-it note will save you from having to boot up each computer to see whose is whose.
lesson three: when elbowing one's way through plastic sheeting splattered in paint, check to be sure the paint is dry before just blundering through in a long-sleeved number.

well, i arrived home at about 6:30 this afternoon/evening. i think i was supposed to leave around 3, but there was a lot of stuff to be done. when i opened the door, i was near about knocked over by the smell of wet paint. why there should be such a smell in my most decidedly not freshly painted apt is beyond me. nevertheless, the just-sprayed spray paint smell only goes away when the air conditioner is actively doing something. so i've opened a window in the office and have the a/c on. this will of course have to stop when i go to bed, at which point i anticipate a very stinky evening.
my best guess: the neighbors have been redecorating or working on an art project. their ventilation system must be in some way tied to my own, which means that i get to enjoy the fruits of their labors without actually enjoying the fruits of their labors.
the good news: i've not gotten sick, high, buzzed, happy, etc., therefore, this doesn't count as huffing, and is probably not doing incredible damage to me.
further good news: the smell is strongest in the kitchen and bedroom, and was this way even before i opened the office window. if it reeks too badly tonight, i've got a room to sleep in. the cats are in on this. they have been in the office since i got back, and probably spent the afternoon in here as well.
and that's it from this front.
love and
