oh yeah...
so my predecessor, who is now a boss in her own right, pre-ordered it, and consumed it at an unholy speed. most folks do. it's a very exciting journey ms rowling has us on. this conclusion promises to be spectacular. i will either love it or hate it. there can be no middle ground with these things.
so once my predecessor finished it, it went to her old boss, my current boss. he's... not a speed reader. at least, compared to the harry potter nuts who'll zap through the book in an afternoon. so he took a few days with it, and was going to get it to me monday.
but joy of joys, he's finished early and it is sitting in the office on my desk. right by the three computers i've spent the last two weeks attempting to link via switch and the thrice-fucked software from hell. [oops. wasn't supposed to think about it again this weekend.]
so now the debate is such: do i go to the office now, since i'm still dressed and the book's not going anywhere? or do i go in the morning when sane people would prefer to drive around? because the book isn't going anywhere.
so far, the answer is 'stay home' for a variety of reasons. first and foremost, it's nearly eleven at night, and i'm trying to be the kind of grad student who doesn't go to campus this late... especially in the summer. i mean, come on. how lame can i be? even if it is harry potter 7?
second reason to stay home: sleep. if i were to lay hands on this book tonight, i would not set it down again. i'd get home, turn on the lamp, grab an extra pillow for the futon, and open the book. probably, i'd finish around noon on saturday and sleep until three am on sunday, at which point the sleep schedule i've worked so hard on this summer would be shot to hell.
third is the camera we've got set up in the office. it's one thing to be lame. it's another thing to be caught being lame on camera.
so, here i am, at home. not on route to the office, or curled around the book in a stupor.
and ems, this is the reason i've not contacted you. about anything. because you are too excited about this, and despite your best intentions, you might say or blog something that would cause me to hate you until i forgot about the spoiler. that might be a very long time. so if you'll be patient just a wee bit longer, i'll call or email when i'm done reading. no offense is meant. i'm sure none will be taken.

while i'm on the subject of entertainment...
i'm about halfway through firefly, having finally borrowed it from the boss. he and coworker just keep mentioning it, and you know, that gets old when you're out of the loop. well, i'm half in the loop now, and it's pretty good. funny, dark, absolutely morbid at points. right up my alley. it's the live action version of cowboy bebop in some ways. a bit darker, and the humor tends to be a touch more gallows than cb, but it's close. maybe add in a splash of trigun for setting.
bleach is still going well. i've watched all the episodes (135 now, and more each week). i've read all the manga (284 and one that is still in chinese). overall, i'm quite pleased with it. the best part: since the subs aren't buyable at this point, i can get them online via other fans. since the manga is only up to vol 20 in english, i can turn to the fan-translation, which is past vol 28.
tonight, i started reading claymore, another ongoing manga. there's apparently an anime to go with it, but i'll dig through the rest of the manga first. so far, it seems to be a darker bleach, but focusing only on one small aspect of bleach that i won't discuss here in case some reader wants to start bleach unspoiled. naturally, i'd highly recommend it, but i tend to be biased.
and that's about it. i've been dwelling in coaster mania for a while knitting wise. i've got about four coasters knit up, and another four on needles. i improvised the coaster pattern into a very large hat. it's ... cute in an ugly sort of way, i'll be honest. but it will be warmer than any hat i've ever seen, so we'll see how ugly it looks in december.
and that's it. i'm going to knit on the christmas coaster and then go to bed. after all, i've got an early morning tomorrow. need to stop by the grocery store for finger foods and other easy/quick meals so i won't starve while absorbed in the book, then swing by the office for the book.
love and peace.

I more than understand--I can't keep a secret! Admittedly, I'm trying very, very hard to remain silent about the end of Harry Potter. (I'm bursting at the seams, I tell you!) I'm looking forward to talking with you about it after you're done. Hope all is well.
All my love,
Em
