ho hum
first off, you know you're in for a loud evening when the screaming downstairs neighbors with the shut-in canines are visited by a stream of people who never leave. i'm sure that apartment's filled past occupancy, and the dogs have been cast outside so they don't bark at the guests. course, that means they're barking at everyone else. it seems this is a games-and-drinking night, and not a loud music night. i remain humbly thankful for the merciful bounty of my lord and savior. don't think i could have done tonight if there was music and barking. earplugs for tonight, then. no prob.
second off, on top of meetings, i still accomplished about four weeks of grading today. i feel proud of myself. the goal is to finish the next four weeks' worth over the next two days. then i don't have to worry about it again until the very, very end, when all my students need their grades in and the deadline loometh and all that. then i may have to go in and grade their papers to get my grades posted for them in time. merry christmas.
third, it's a bit sad that on the first relatively light-load weekend i get, i spend most of my could-have-been-free time grading.
fourth, my valiant body is succumbing to some kind of bug. i've pumped it full of vitamins multi- and c. i've fed it well on healthy food. i've kept the pipes flushed out with loads of cranberry juice and more water than i enjoy drinking. and yet. and yet every night this week, i've gone to bed with vicks vapo so that i could breathe in the morning. every time i've blown my nose, i've had to hold a new tissue to the dang thing just to keep my shirts un-bloody. [got a humidifier, anyone?] the tiny headache of earlier this week has become the gosh-why-don't-you-just-lie-down headache of currently. the back of my throat is thick and gummy, and all the clearing in the world is not clearing a dang thing.
i hang my head in near-defeat. i really didn't want to get sick. but i'm thinking all these signs are pointing to it in neon that can't be ignored. flashing like those light up lawn pumpkins in burnt orange and tinkerbell green. i blame the temperature changes.
got called a southern pansy earlier this week for wearing my fingerless gloves indoors. what can i say? they keep it cold in that building. and i chill easily. oddly, i enjoy a brisk 60 degree day outdoors. i really do. but indoors, i prefer a balmy 75-85. to me, 70 indoors is much chillier than 60 outdoors. this, i attribute to unnatural air flow. but yeah. that's me. the southern pansy. forgive me for not wanting to type with stiff fingers.
of course, i keep my apt at about 80-85 in the summer and approximately 65 in the winter. probably opposite most people. if i could afford the 80 degrees in the winter, you better believe i would bake myself all year round indoors.
ah well. imma take some ibuprofin and go stretch out on my floor. maybe i won't wake up for seven or so hours.
night all.
