some mid morning time killer, before i get ready to head to campus

1. name? rehkmira

2. were you named after anyone? um, my real life middle name is my mother's...

3. when did you last cry? surprisingly, not yet this semester. there were many happy tears when i got the thesis back with glowing commentary by a writerly role model.

4. do you like your own handwriting? this depends. i like certain of my letters. i'm particularly fond of my lower case f, my capital e, d, p, r, and s. the rest is okay when i write "pretty" and illegible when i write notes.

5. what is your favorite lunch meat? ham, of the sliced-from-the-bone and not water-packed process variety. all the fat trimmed off, and no disgusting glaze. [then you've got to add bread and mashed potatoes to it and create a sandwich to end all sandwiches.]

6. kids? no, nay, never. not particularly fond of them. never have been. not looking to change that up any.

7. if you were another person would you be friends with you? friends, yeah, probably. more than friends, absolutely not. i figure if i were someone else, i'd probably get pissed at all the space my former self needs.

8. do you have a journal? well, there's this, and the notes i take here and there. nothing in a bound book with fuzzy pink feather pen, or anything like that. just scraps of paper i draw up late at night to purge something from my brain and let me sleep.

9. do you use sarcasm a lot? never. sarcasm is a tool of satan, and as such, should never be entertained. just think of all the good relationships ruined by this evil bitterness.

10. do you still have your tonsils? last time i checked, yeah.

11. would you bungee jump? i think yes, but we're talking one of two scenarios: a] i'm drunk off my ass, probably stoned, and maybe tripped off the edge, or b] i was told i had x amount of time to live, and decided to enjoy every stupid thrill-seeking thing life had to offer. outside of these things, i've never had the desire to do that. it isn't fear. i quite like heights. it's not paranoia. i doubt the rope would twist up and strangle me or break at the critical moments. it's just a lack of desire. like the lack of desire to own a suv or get drunk off my ass, or stoned. or like my lack of desire to wear polka dots.

12. what is your favorite cereal? my father's oatmeal. yes, i can make it too. yes, mine does come out nearly the same. but like my mother's cooking, it's just somehow better when dad makes it. [especially since he makes 2 servings of it and we eat it at the kitchen table together and talk.]

13. do you untie your shoes when you take them off? since the 6th grade, i've been afraid of my shoes falling off. i lace them up tight, i double knot the bow. yeah, i also untie them. they wouldn't come off otherwise.

14. do you think you are strong? within reason, yes. outside of reason, yes, with some divine help.

15. what is your favorite ice cream? the cheapest of cheap strawberry. i think dryers is a brand that comes close, but blue bell strawberry sucks. most blue bell sucks. sorry to all you texans. [the best ice cream ever came from frank's, an ice cream parlor in ca where we used to stop on the way home from school every once in a while. franks served the rock hard variety of ice cream in soda cups with hugely long plastic spoons. pretty sure it was brand name ice cream, but i don't know the brand. *that* strawberry ice cream is the best ever.]

16. what is your shoe size? 7.5, 8, 8.5, 9. depends on the kind of shoe, the brand on the shoe, and what socks i'm wearing. these days, it's usually more 8-8.5 than anything.

17. red or pink? is burgundy not an option?

18. what is your least favorite thing about yourself? you might not have noticed, but i can get negative in my perspectives and outlook on things. i don't like that. i also tend to amass clutter. not too fond of that one either.

19. who do you miss the most? most? as in one person? unfair.

20. do you want everyone to send this back to you? eh?

21. what color pants and shoes are you wearing? i'm coming in later today. i'm wearing, therefore, off white flannel pants with blue, green, pink and purple scotties and polka dots [maybe i *will* end up bungee jumping in my lifetime] on them.

22. last thing you ate? pasta with a pat of butter and parmesan cheese. ultimate in comfort foods.

23. what are you listening to right now? the mews of a hungry pair of cats.

24. if you were a crayon, what color would you be? lime green. matches the dashing hat i've got in the back of my car. but in crayon lingo, you can call me chartreuse. [practically unheard of, time traveling, x-man criminal dude had a chartreuse mohawk that was somehow floppy and suave-looking; i had a major crush on this character for the span of about three months. trevor fitzroy. look him up, he's dreamy.]

25. favorite smell? newly rained on world.

26. who was the last person you talked to on the phone? some hotel manager. she couldn't tell me what the rates were for a group of single rooms, and transferred me for the fourth time to a higher up and, for the fourth time, dropped my call.

27. the first thing you notice about people you are attracted to? eyes. they tell me all about a person. now, if i'm not attracted to you, i'll still take a glance, but unless we're friends or at least close acquaintances, i won't remember their color or anything. just the person i saw behind them. after eyes, body language. and calves are shmexy.

28. do you like the person who sent this to you? this wasn't sent. but km blogged it and i like her.

29. favorite drink? am particularly fond of water. the unflavored slightly chilled variety. second is really strong cranberry juice [none of that sugar cocktail crap will do, as it isn't really juice] and mint tea.

30. favorite sport? km said "men’s gymnastics" and i guess when i think of it, that's pretty high up there. i like those kinds of graceful things more than the testosterone driven rampages of a dozen sweaty men any day. so: diving, that thing where they flip all over that blue foam square, etc. and ice skating. i like that. graceful-like.

31. eye color? blue-green-grey. depends on mood and attire. and level of exhaustion.

32. hat size? one size fits all, doesn't it? smaller than the gallon hats, at least.

33. do you wear contacts? contacts are pools of bacteria and amoebas lying in wait to devour your eyes and leave pitted, pocked, scarred and oozing messes behind. oh, and i'm afraid to touch my eye. mascara is a bitch, and i almost never wear it unless there's some kind of reason to struggle through makeup.

34. favorite food? um. am fond of spaghetti and lasagna. really fond of lasagna. enjoy cheese enchiladas. new england clam chowder. seafood. chicken pot pie, with a real crust on top and bottom and made in that really thick partridge decorated pie pan my mother has. sr: if you're reading this, could we have that when i get home?

35. scary movies or happy ending? how about a mysterious ending that leaves some stuff open to speculation and invites brain function? scary movies just don't do it for me. but sappy movies don't either.

36. what was the last movie you watched? i'm gonna count episodes of house here, since they were on dvd and not on the tele. other than that, v for vendetta with km in the basement of our workplace, somewhat illicitly.

37. what color shirt are you wearing? long sleeves, matches my pajama bottoms.

38. summer or winter? fall. spring's a close second. not too fond of the extremes.

39. hugs or kisses? who are you, and what is your relationship to me? i like both of these from people entitled to share them. i would hit anyone who kissed me without permission, and i don't often give that permission. [and we're not talking about the familial cheek-and-forehead pecks.] i can't get away with hitting people who hug me against my will, but i do grimace, pull back, and stand ramrod straight and stiff like a sculpture. don't attempt to do more than shake my hand unless i make the first move, k? [oh, if only well-meaning townsfolk could grasp this concept.]

40. favorite dessert? pizza apple pie, with extra cheese.

41. who is most likely to respond? whoever wants to...

42. least likely to respond? whoever doesn't want to...

43. what books are you reading? ada, or ardor; several books on translation, don quixote [gotta read the last chapter at least], v for vendetta [for a paper], tao te ching, ecclesiastes, proverbs...

44. what's on your mouse pad? i have no mouse pad.

45. what did you watch last night on tv? house. it rocked. i could go on, but i'd be flitting away more minutes than i can afford to. he got arrested!

46. favorite sounds? white noise, purring cats, silence, classical lullabies, kitting needles skishing across one another.

47. rolling stones or beatles? beatles over stones, but many things over beatles.

48. the furthest you've been from home? grad school.

49. what's your special talent? whatever it needs to be at the moment to get the task accomplished. generally, i'd say writing. and it may not seem like it, but i'm generally good at empathizing when i need to be.

50. where were you born? san jose, ca.

love and peace
