My Newest Holiday
And as you can see from the counter to the right of this, I have been following the voluntary simplicity thing. It's also very cool, and you should go check it out. Even Google would bring up some nice sites about it. Probably the Simple Living Network is my most inspirational site. I love their newsletter, and get more ideas all the time.
And to go along with both of these, I'm lately on an anti-consumerism kick. After all, why buy things to replace the ones you rightly purged? Why add clutter to a life you're trying to simplify? The whole "I shall not be buying anything unnecessary" part of it is primarily to make sure that I can. I grew tired of being addicted to things, and so am gradually pulling myself away from them. Because really. There are so many things out there to be addicted to that are better than stuff. I personally, would love to indulge a habit of getting 8 hours of sleep each night. I'd love to be able to set aside two hours a day for knitting without feeling guilt about it. Wholesome, home cooked meals: now there's something worth an obsession. And how about meditating on my relationship with God, or on God himself? Not "with scripture or without" but "with scripture and without." Again, something incredibly more worthy of my time and energy than maintenance on and accumulation of stuff.
Thus, the life styles and holidays currently in my life. Behold, the newest thing. It happens once a year, but the effects can be profound throughout and beyond. And to be honest, it's something we should all be doing, because if enough of us join in, we can make a difference that affects not only ourselves, but our friends and loved ones, and those we don't even know. Introducing: Take Back Your Time. On October 24th, a Tuesday this year, consider doing some of the things you find on the site. We all need to relax a bit. We’re an awfully uptight and overworked nation.
Oh yeah, and the wrist is feeling up to capital letters, if you hadn’t noticed. I’m very happy about that.
Love and Peace
