Orientation is over now, and courses begin in earnest next week. I've got a schedule sort of fixed with my teaching, office hours, grad classes, meetings, development workshops, IT work slots, and a set of hours during which nothing is ever going to be scheduled regularly. More about those last ones.
During orientation, there was something of a mini crisis where an instructor was slotted to both teach a course, and take a course. After a great silence amongst the crowd, I got the feeling I ought to offer my assistance, and so I saw the scheduling secretary afterwards and took the second class. It really isn't that much of an imposition, and the hours are pretty much the same. I'd have been grading all afternoon Monday, and now I simply have office hours and a second class.
As thrilled as I was by the idea of only teaching the one class, I'm surprisingly not upset at this second one. It might be that I volunteered for it, or that this week has just generally been so upbeat. It might strike me as a bad thing next week. There's no telling. But for now, it's just fine. I'll simply have to look back on this if I get upset later on and remember that this at least was my own doing.
Bad news: Charlotte has discovered the secret art of turning off the surge protector. Thankfully, I'd saved my document only a sentence prior, because it would have been quite an unpleasant shock otherwise. It still isn't a good thing by any stretch, but at least the only thing lost was a comment about students planning their lunch menu instead of paying attention. (Ems and I were quite guilty of this during Twitchy's class, so I know the temptation well...)
My classes are both right before major meal times, sad to say. I've done the pre-lunch classes before, and the students were a bit eager. I've never done a class that got out right before dinner. I suppose I should come prepared for rumbling tummies.
Well, I'm just plum exhausted, so that'll be all for tonight.
Love and Peace
