Life of a Creative Writing Grad Student [and knitter]

The occasional opining of a sleep-deprived grad student, with cheese.

Is this stupidity or plain old fashioned lack of consideration for others? You be the judge.

A truck (pronounced with tur-UCK, all drawn-out like) is driving along the road, going a little over the speed limit. A car (that would be myself) is also driving along that road, behind the truck and losing, as it is going the speed limit. There is a parking lot on the other side of this road, and no other cars/trucks/moving vans/etc. in sight.

Rather than pull into this parking lot to pick up its pedestrian cargo, the truck idles in the middle of this road, waiting for its future pedestrian cargo to gather bookbag, tennis racket, and brain from the sidewalk. The truck continues to idle as the pedestrian (who has not actually re-engaged the previously discarded brain matter) saunters over to the transportation vehicle (truck).

By this time, the car, going the speed limit and previously far away from the truck, has caught up and is waiting for the pedestrian to join the convoy. The pedestrian looks at the car and chats up the driver of the truck. Only then does the pedestrian make an effort to board the transportation vehicle.

At this point, the truck lurches forward to make up for lost time, and guns it until the intersection is at hand, replete with solid red lights. The truck stops in the middle of the now two-lane road, preventing the car from turning right on red. When the light turns green, the truck hesitates mightily before turning left and leaving the car's driver in relative bliss.

Now it's your turn. Are the driver of the truck and her (yes, her) brain-toting pedestrian just stupid? Do they not know better? Are they trainable? Or are they simply inconsiderate bores who should not be permitted access to a moving vehicle but for the instance of one's moving swiftly toward them?

Love and Peace (with a touch of irritation and hint of horn-honking, though no sound issued forth from the car in question)
