Only NINE Short

Hello all, and welcome to this bitching session. I have nine reviews left in my quota for the week, and have had that number steadily, since no reviews are in the system to grade. Why aren't these kids writing reviews? Don't they know I have a quota to meet? (you can laugh at that last bit, since I'm not at all upset or even really bitching at all.)

Seriously, though. I'm nine short for reviews, and I've gone considerably over my quota in critiques and drafts. First reads take lots of time, and they're really hard to do, so I only do the bare minimum of them, which is currently fifty-four. No, I have not done that many. I've only done four of them. I'll get a nasty email Tuesday morning about not being up on that quota. But I can deal, since they aren't counting those against us at this point. But the reviews will kill me. I'm at 0% for this week, and can only hope they show up sometime this weekend. You only get an email if you're below 85%, and I believe 0% fits that bill. It's only nine, but the % is the %.

Just for the record, I've graded a total of 197 papers so far. I'll concede that many of them are short, only about a page or so. But there are several that could be considered full-length papers on account of their being, well, full-length. I don't have those numbers, because I don't care enough to gather that information for you. Maybe if I get a check in the mail, or cash or something, I'll be motivated enough to get you those numbers. Until then, 197 is the number. Almost two hundred. When I grade the 2ooth (hee hee: tooth!), I'll have a celebration. Just because.

A friend and I are going shopping tomorrow, at the local thrift shops. We plan to buy clothes. On my list will be a few pairs of jeans that fit me (I've shrunk, and all mine are now baggy except for one pair), a few nice tops that I can wear to gradually transform into a teacher (I've got business casual, I've got church clothes, and a little summer dress mania, but I lack a transition from jeans), and maybe a few skirts. Realistically, I'll be lucky to get away with two shirts and pair of pants. But they'll be cheap! I'm also thinking of getting a few oblong scarves to experiment with this latest scarf-wearing thing going around the English department. This trend actually looks nice.

Another thought that's been flying around my head for a while is a haircut. I'll get the back cropped way short again, because it's grown out to the irritating point again. Front I'll leave long. Same same. I'll think long and hard before I actually do what I've been considering, which is a pixie cut of some kind. I'm a bit untrustworthy of hairdressers' promises of low maintenance. I want something I can fluff with my fingers before running out the door. Something I can possibly dress up with a headband, but not something that requires dressing up. Chances are, this will never happen, and my hair will remain pretty much the same.

Charlotte's been a dear. We've had no problems at all today, and yesterday evening was largely fun for both. She's asleep right now, but if you've been reading this blog, you know her schedule so well you could have guessed that.

This be the end, folks.

End.
