Presidential Debates

Well, I've watched the thing twice now, and am currently listening to people around the country calling in to speak their minds. A few things about the callers are very thrilling for me. Many of them sound young. Incredibly young. A few of them prefaced their calls with the information that this was either their first time watching debates, or their first opportunity to vote. I had expected a whole bunch of cranky old men to be calling in and arguing, a la Fox News. I was pleasantly startled by the younger turn out, and by the equally represented genders.

As for what the candidates actually said, I found that Bush was a tad hesitant and stumbled over a few of his responses. I've never thought especially highly of Bush, and I'll be watching the next two debates to see if he can pull himself above my current low opinions of him. Kerry seemed to slide a bit over the issues, having voted for side X in the past, and proclaiming his support for side Y now. I'm not sure this can be all bad, or all good. Being flexible as new information comes in is a good thing, but having no solid base is a bad thing. I'll have to see the other two debates to figure out which I think is the case with Kerry.

I also think I’ll be able to stomach two more debates, since they aren’t pulling the “I’m the only one who has the right to talk, shut up you fool!” act I see on television. It wasn’t at all like the arguments disguised as debates and conversations I see on Fox as I flee the room.

That's about all I'll say right now, since I'm very tired, and sick of politics. I've always hated politics, and have always thought of politicians as slimy, lying creeps, out for their own good and the good of the lobbyists who get them elected. However, now that I have a say in matters, it would be highly irresponsible of me to avoid making a decision.

One thing I kept laughing at during my first viewing of the debate was that Kerry (leader of the blue states) wore a red tie, while Bush (leader of the red states) wore a blue tie. I wonder if they planned that?

The cat spent the debate sleeping on my stomach while I watched/listened from the futon. True to her nature, she's just now waking up, and I'll play with her before going to bed. I might even leave my door open tonight. I do that occasionally. She ends up sleeping inside my bed. The box spring has a felt bottom, which comes loose in a tiny area, allowing a cat-sized being to curl up on the felt hammock or climb around the wooden support beams. She loves it down there. But she eats the felt.

Ah, Charlotte. My precious little kitty. I love her easily 95% percent of the time. The other 5% of the time, it isn't as easy, but I still love her. I'm taking her to PetsMart Saturday, and her little daggers are going to get dulled via nail clippers. I foresee the 5% shrinking.

Pandora, think back to your first roommate in Con-U. The one who hung the stolen mirror over her bed? Who invited a guy over to rub her back at three am? Yes, her. I need to get in contact with her. Do you have a reliable way of contacting her? If so, email me. And short of kicking her off the leg and whipping my arms away from her, I do not swat Charlotte. Just wanted to clear that up. No thumping on the nose, no bopping on the head, no nothing. Just the quickest way to rid my limbs of cat. The little fuzzball lives a cushy life.

This time, I really am signing out. Night, all.

As I type this, the debate is coming on a third time. I will not be watching it. I can lip synch the debate now, and that means it’s gotten old. Welcome to October.

End.
