Day Three - The Infamous "I"

That professor I mentioned last time, the one with all the "guh" sounds... She shares a trait with the whole department that drives me mad. It's the infamous "I". Correct grammar dictates that the following is wrong: Email So-in-So and I later tonight. It ought to be: Email So-in-So and me later tonight. And all these highly educated people get it wrong every time. They never say "me" as though they are afraid of it being wrong automatically. But people, it's right about half the time, depending on the case required for the sentence. It is really very easy to tell when it should be which way. Take out the "So-in-So," and see if it sounds right. This might not be the rule for all instances, but it would prevent a lot of cringing on my part if the people here would try it. You wouldn't say "Email I later tonight," would you? Please tell me you wouldn't.

So that is the peeve of today's blog. A somewhat smaller peeve than has been the norm of late, huh? The others aren't this frustrating. So they aren't peeves.

I slept in today, since I don't go to campus on Wednesdays usually. There was a lot of reading to do, and I did most of it... All but about twelve pages, really. The Feminist Theory readings aren't dull, nit picky readings like the other theory class. They are pleasant, straightforward readings. I like. I've still got to finish the Rather book, but I hate it, so it might take a while. The other notable assignments yet to be completed are the question of the week and the fake grading of several fake assignments. Something about norming.

And this brings me to our grading system. I dislike it as it stands now. No one will tell us anything, preferring to bicker about minute details like children squabbling over spilled Nerds. So. We get dozens of emails from these "experts" who can never decide how to teach the class or how to grade the assignments, and somehow we (that would refer to myself, and the class I'm taking) have gotten into hot water. Professor Guh decided to enact some harsh grading policy or other, and only decided this during our class. She then had one of us (not me; I'm not stupid!) send her decision out to the others, who got understandably mad that a bunch of apprentices had made such a major decision. Instead of writing to say that it had been her decision, she invited anyone who felt like it to come to our class meetings so we could all discuss things. I don't want my class to be overrun by meetings like the ones I witnessed at the orientation. I'm there to learn to grade with this stupid program, not to join the hunt for missing candy.

So there's another peeve. Guess I was wrong about the brevity of the list today. I accomplished my difficult task late last night, and can only hope all went as planned. I am going to Office Depot tomorrow to investigate laptop monitor lights, as mine flickers with gusto now. Also, I will vacuum, and take a bowl of chili from my freezer.

I am considering joining a yoga class with two other classmates, as both a source of much needed relaxation, and an activity that will get me out. The downside would be the twenty bucks a month part, but the upsides are exercise, social life, stress relief, and fun. It might be worth it. Later on, the stress will get much worse than it has ever been, I can feel it.

Hmmm. I'm going by the animal shelter/adoption agency Friday, and if I find a cat that connects with me, I'll be starting over again in the kitty arena. Also on Friday, I am going to a free movie on campus with a friend.

The IT people were in the office today, wiping out all the hard drives on our office computers, and starting them over again. I got a call asking if this was okay, since I wasn't there to nod my head in the matter. Of course, I urged them to do what was necessary to give me a working computer. I'll see tomorrow if the IT people came through. I'll be there at eight am this time, to see if I can beat the rush for parking. I might end up spending a lot of time at campus.

I took the battery out of the smoke detector, and slept well last night. I left it out today as well, since I was here. Tomorrow when I go to school, I'll put it back in, so I get a reminder in the form of beeping. I need to go buy a battery for it. I'll try to do that at Office Depot. If not there, I'll head out to Walmart or something.

And now, it is getting late (if I plan to be there that early), and I have to fake grade a few assignments. Did you see my new counter? Isn't it pretty? Well, take care folks.

End.
