Life of a Creative Writing Grad Student [and knitter]

The occasional opining of a sleep-deprived grad student, with cheese.

this evening, a very special blog...

2:06 - arrive at KM's apt, where she loads two trips of stuff in the back. it's moving day for us both, it seems.

3:00 - we settle in. cheese from last week's party and a pot of tea to start, though we've brought enough food between us to stock a bomb shelter throughout the next nuclear holocaust.

4:00 - i have lost my copy of the Tao Te Ching. it is not in my bag, or my overnight bag, or my luggage. i did not find it in my bedroom. i did not find it in my kitchen, or my bathroom. it has never been in a closet. it is not in my home office, or in my living room, or on/near/under/to the side of/etc. my coffee table. it is not on the kitchen table. nor is it in the chair of winter clothing by the door. it is not in my car. it is not in my office. it is not in the other office. that's about it for places it could be. this means that it will be very vaguely alluded to in this final, where it's probably best to be specific. [shrug] we do what we can with the situation at hand. i've done the math. i need to three-quarter-ass this final to get an a. i can swing that.

7:45 - back from a lovely dinner at the chinese place on 50/T. had five star reviews and a health code violation when we first learned of it so many years ago... still has wonderful food, but we've not gotten sick there, so the health code thing must be over now. tried the following [spelled horribly]: kung pao chicken, double-cooked pork, some broccoli beef thing, jalapeno shrimp, sesame chicken [nearly couldn't swallow that one...eeeewwwww], gerneral somebody's meat [can't recall, and it hasn't been so long since i ate it...], and a few other things i just can't remember right now. even a mussel. sort of shrimpy and crabby at the same time. i passed over the mini octopus bits in a river of brown sauce. there's only so far i will go. that would have been *far* too far. my fortune says i'm "going to have a very comfortable old age." this is reassuring, because i'd been under the impression that this degree would kill me.

9:00 - about half way finished with my final. can probably have this thing done before midnight the way it's going. that gives me time to sleep a bit and get up to school uber-early on monday. get some work done before going to work. yeah fun.

10:40 - the final has been sent in. as i just told KM, i have nothing more to say, and that seems like a good definition for 'finished'. now, we're going home, where i will knit about four rows of doily as a reward for getting this done before midnight, and where i imagine KM will continue to slave away on her own final. [psst! hers is much harder than mine!]

i thank you all both for tuning in, and hope you have wonderful nights filled with sleep and lovely days filled with joy.

love and peace [and Z's! oh, the beautiful Z's i will have tonight!!!]
