The GES Conference...

... curiously, *not* "of Doom."

Unless I'm forgetting something (and I might be), I am currently

Chair of the Food Committee
Member of the T-Shirt Committee
Member of the Registration Committee
Chair of a Panel on Cultural Studies (focus on television and commercials)

I'm in charge of planning, organizing, and implimenting the catering, pot luck, and dining rooms for the conference (like I'm any good at these things). I'm also teaming up with my T-shirt partner to create a design, logo, etc. for a T-shirt, to contact the various T-shirt designers in Dirt Town, and to work with one of those establishments to obtain a correct number of our specialty T-shirts. Then I get to put together all sorts of welcome brochures, name tags, etc. in the Registration Committee's goal of getting everyone sorted out first thing. When the actual conference gets underway, I get to moderate the discussion of several papers on popular culture, as well as introduce the presenters and tie things up at the end.

I think that when I'm done with all of that, I get to be a normal grad student again. Thank God this happens next semester. Oh, and I'm registered to attend the AWP conference in Austin as well. It will be busy with the thesis defence going on amidst all that. Shudder.

And that's the news of the day ... or week.

end.
