Some very lucid discourse on "Discourse" ... and other things.
I just read "Discourse" again, and every time I read it I hate the author a little more. Why is he published when he can't speak a lucid English sentence to save his ass, and I'm not? This is lucid, right? You can understand the language I'm using, and the words I use are right and proper, straight-from-the-dictionary words. I didn't have to make up a single one. The only things in quotations are the titles. Not so, with "Discourse." He hasn't appropriated the language properly, as Bakhtin would have us believe.
So my friend is married now, and I was one of her bridesmaids. I wasn't at the wedding, and it bites. The class I gave up my wedding attending rights for wasn't worth it. But my grade in that class *was*, so I guess it's all worth it in the end. It had better be.
I finished my nonfiction piece about a moment in my life. I wrote about when I met my now-married friend. We had hated each other from a distance, quite unabashedly, and were forced by unspeakable circumstances to room with one another. After a two hour conversation that was more like a blind date than anything else, we were very good friends.
Now we're something like best friends, although that is kind of grade school, and I have a small circle of best friends. Maybe they're just friends and my friends are all really just acquaintances. But that would suck, so my small circle is really filled with best friends.
Oh well. I need dinner, and the couscous I had for lunch was nasty. So no leftovers. I'll put it down the drain tomorrow when I feel like crap after reading for my class. It'll be fun. "Discourse" on *this*, buddy! Maybe not.
I sometimes wish I drank. People who drink always seem so laid back about stuff. They don't care, they just go to a bar and waste their time, money and mind. That's when I remember why I don't drink.
Haven't bought the Cups-o-Noodles yet. They're high on my list, right after shampoo and clam chowder. Man, I'm hungry. I'm going to go eat. End.
